Presented here are results of the Measuring the Effects of Catch Shares project for the West Coast Shorebased Individual Fishing Quota (IFQ) Program, a catch share program implemented in the West Coast groundfish trawl fishery in January 2011.
The results are intended to help answer key questions about the effects of the catch share program on fish stocks, fishermen, local communities, and fishing-related businesses. The results can be accessed in two ways: by key question (above) or by indicator (below).
The results show emerging changes and trends during the catch share program compared to a baseline period before the catch share program. We also report on changes in catch share program design and annual catch limits (ACLs). We update the results on a rolling basis as new data become available.
We will release a final report in 2017 with results for the first 5 years of the catch share program.
